The Tour
The secret writing you’ll hear on this tour isn’t coded messages, written in invisible ink. Rather this literary tour features readings from a variety of authors who have addressed the covert world of agents. Whether spies, moles or agents provocateurs, these characters have contributed to our picture of life in the shadows.
Cambridge Circus
On this tour you will encounter familiar voices. For instance we hear from John le Carré, former employee of MI6. We hear also from Ian Fleming, wartime member of the Naval Intelligence Division.
Charing Cross Hotel
We will hear also from other familiar authors.
But these are not authors we would connect with secret writing. Prepare for surprises!
A famous consulting detective sets a trap for an agent dealing in stolen secret plans. An anarchist pornographer agrees to blow up an important scientific establishment.
Meanwhile a famous barrister battles against the Official Secrets Act, and we get a glimpse into the world of naval intelligence during the Napoleonic wars.
Beginning with the location of a fictional MI6 headquarters, we conclude outside the building which housed the real MI6 between 1926 and 1964.
