Curtains hide secrets!
Charlie Rich once sang that no-one knows what goes on behind closed doors.
As you walk along any street in any town you will see window after window, many closed off by curtains. Is this a happy house? Or one blighted by domestic tyranny? Is it the stage for romance or for tragedy?
Whatever your secrets, if you don’t draw the curtains when you’ve got the light on, you’ll get people like me taking a good old look at what’s going on in there. And you’d be surprised what we think you’re up to.
The Stories
The collection features stories in a variety of styles, but each takes its inspiration from the same concept. They explore the range of possibilities which the domestic setting offers.
This includes the curative power of bingo or erotic fiction, the dangers of taking Neighbourhood Watch too far, and what can happen when love crosses the species gap.
The idea behind this collection is to showcase human interaction. Whether the situations are mystical, violent, comic or absurd, still the focus is on relationships. Some relationships find resolution, though not always in a happy way. Others demonstrate the darker side of our nature. Hope and frustration feature, as do regret and vengeance.
Other Fiction
This is my second collection of stories. You might also consider my first, Death and the City. The stories in this first volume take as their starting point the closeness of the living to the dead in London. This embodies the close relationship between the past and the present. Topics include graverobbing, Execution Dock and theatre ghosts, as well as the dead who slip away unnoticed.
Each story is inspirted by an aspect of London which I’ve learned as I’ve grown up here. My intention was in this way to give a dimension of authenticity to the stories. Nevertheless, I must stress that though the settings are real, the stories themselves are purely fictional!
