Exploring the Anatomy of the City of London
The Anatomy of the City is a joint venture between City of London guides David Charnick and Vivien Schrager-Powell, who are your hosts on the tours below. Each tour explores a specific aspect of the business City. In this way we throw light on the character and development of the City itself. The tours are self-contained and work individually, but can also be presented as a series.
The tours are researched rigorously. As such they offer a valuable resource for Sixth Form colleges and for Further and Higher Education establishments. They are also valuable supplements to the business life of the City, making them an ideal resource for induction and for team-building initiatives.
Currently the tours available are as follows: please click on the picture for full details
The City of London is a major financial centre. How it achieved and maintains this position is a story of many stages.
We begin with a circular tour exploring the development of organised finance in the City of London from its beginnings. Then we go on to explore aspects of the financial City itself, finishing with the Big Bang.
London’s rôle in the development of the nation’s trade was crucial, with the River Thames as its gateway to the world. This flourishing trade led to the establishment of England as a major presence on the international stage.
On this tour we follow the Thames, considering the City’s markets, merchants and explorers.
The Commercial Backbone: this tour will look at individual companies and how their growth (and decline) shows the way the City works and is sustained.
The Private Parts of the City: a frank examination of the times when people – and companies – have crossed the line to the dark side.
