David Charnick
I was born in Bethnal Green in 1964, and I have never seen a reason to move out. My speciality is hunting out the more obscure nooks and crannies of London, which nowadays we pass with scarcely a second glance, and bringing you their stories. Not that my tours are full of bits and pieces. No; with Charnowalks you get the full picture, as you can see from the descriptions of my tours.
A Way with Words
As well as guiding, I’ve written various papers about London literature. I’ve also written various relevant blog posts. My lifelong experience of London inspired my collection of stories Death and the City. It is based on some of the tales from London’s history with which I have grown up. My second collection of stories, Behind the Curtains, explores the curiosities of domestic life. The Dark Side of East London is published by Pen and Sword. It explores darker moments of the East End’s story in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries.
Let Me Oblige You
I am available to create bespoke tours. My two postgraduate degrees guarantee the authenticity of my research; my extensive experience of performance assures you of my delivery style. Moreover, my life-long familiarity with London adds an authenticity to my tours.
If you want a tour designed on a specific topic, or in a specific area, I can oblige. Please get in touch using the contact page and let me know your requirements.
